In our first assignment, I was required to find ways to generate ideas and abstracting conceptual narratives from the surroundings. Besides that I produced a design which represent my own traits and characteristic of myself through drawings.
The picture attached below represents myself as a person who is very free-minded(not much of restrictions) but also has a particullar mindset which holds myself:
REFLECTION:
After finishing this project,I have learnt how to explore various approaches to design thinking and production. The most effective ways are by mad-mapping, simple sketches and idea developing on butter paper and various mediums. Besides that,I learned how to construct a representational piece of art based on the initial ideas that have been abstracted and redefined through the process of translation and interpretation.
Project Two - Me in Space
In a group of 3, we were required to build a 1:1 scale model come presentation panel to further express our personal characteristics. We were to further our ability to create and develop a conceptual narrative and to introduce and create an awareness of the scale and proportion of the human body. Besides that, we also should explore how human anthropometry and ergonomics relate to and inform space and to introduce basic design principles and terminologies of architectural design. I used information through lectures and tutorials, also from the book ' Form Space and Order ' by Francis D.K. Ching.
The image attached below are the model that we produced:
REFLECTION:
At the end of this project, I am able to identify and articulate basic design principles in space and form, able to distinguish and discern the role of scale and proportion in the relationship between the human body and a designed space or enclosure and able to design and produce a space that embodies and expresses an idea or conceptual narrative that represent myself and team mates.
Project Three - My City Dreamspace
Our final project for Design Studio is to create our own spaces from what we have learnt since the beginning of this semester. In this project, I am to further our ability to create and develop a conceptual narrative, to introduce and create an awareness of the scale and proportion of the human body, to explore how human anthropometry and ergonomics relate to and inform space. Besides that, I also learn how to develop basic design principles and terminologies in architecture form, also to explore how the selection and application of materials relate to and informs the sensory experience.
We were given 4 movies and in a group of 5, we have to come out with our site model. The movie that we had chose is 'The 5th Element', a 1997 sci-fi movie. We then have to come out with our very own dreamspace model to fit in the respected and given space.
Below are the pictures of our site model:
Below are the pictures of my individual model scaled 1:50 :
Attachments below are my presentation board:
Reflction :
At the end of this assignment, I design and produce a space that embodies and expresses an idea or conceptual narrative, be able to distinguish and discern the role of scale and proportion in the relationship between the human body and a designed space or enclosure, also be able to identify, articulate and apply basic design principles in spatial organization and relationships. Besides that I am also able to select and apply materials to embody and enhance the sensory experience of the space and to create, articulate and illustrate the poetics of spatial quality.
